…In gymnosperms and dicotyledons, the radicle grows to become the taproot, but in monocotyledons, the radicle does not grow significantly, and adventitious roots develop to form fibrous roots. In this way, roots that grow from stems and other parts of the plant, other than the roots that form in the embryo (radicles), are collectively called adventitious roots. Stems usually have the ability to form adventitious roots, and it is known that growth-promoting substances, especially auxin, have the property of causing new adventitious roots to form (Figure 1). …
