Chigusa Highway (Chikusa Highway)

Japanese:
Chigusa Highway (Chikusa Highway)
A highway that crosses the Suzuka Mountains and connects Shiga Prefecture (Omi) and northern Mie Prefecture (Ise). Also known as "Chikusa Pass," in the Middle Ages it was an important trade route for Omi merchants to Iseji along with the Hatsupu Highway, about 6km to the north. From the areas of Omihachiman and Yokaichi, it passes through Uryuzu and reaches Kazuhata, then follows a mountain route up the Fujikiri River. The Chikusa Pass is reached by crossing Sugitoge Pass north of Amagoiyama, crossing Suisho Valley, and crossing Nebira Pass in the Suzuka Mountains. Once in Mie Prefecture, if you go down along the river you will soon reach the Ise Plain.
