Kanamura Otomo

Japanese:
Kanamura Otomo

Date of birth and death unknown. A powerful clan from the end of the 5th century to the first half of the 6th century. Omuraji during the reigns of Buretsu, Keitai, Ankan, and Senka. Son of Otomo Katari. After the death of Emperor Ninken, he destroyed the Heguri clan and enthroned Emperor Buretsu. Since there was no heir to the throne after Buretsu's death, Kanemura consulted with his ministers and welcomed Emperor Keitai, the 5th generation descendant of Emperor Ojin, from Echizen. In 512 (Emperor Keitai 6), he accepted Kudara's request to cede the four provinces of Mimana, and in 527, when Tsukushi no Kuni no Miyatsuko Iwai rebelled, he fought alongside Mononobe no Arakai and put down the rebellion. Later, during the quiet period, he worked hard to increase the number of Miyake (storehouses), but in 540 (Emperor Kinmei 1), when he accompanied Emperor Kinmei on his visit to Naniwa, he was accused by Mononobe no Okoshi and others of being responsible for the cession of the four provinces of Mimana, leading to his downfall and his retirement to his residence in Sumiyoshi. The Otomo clan gradually declined after this.
