An annual plant of the Balsaminaceae family (APG classification: Balsaminaceae). The whole plant is green-white, soft and hairless. The stem is 30-80 cm tall, well branched and juicy. The leaves are stalked, alternate, oblong, 4-12 cm long, and have coarse, blunt sawtooth edges. From May to July, thin stalks appear in the leaf axils, and 3-5 flowers hang down from them. The flowers are bilaterally symmetrical, pale yellow, 2 cm across, with reddish-brown spots on the inside, and some are white. It resembles Impatiens textori, but the spur curves gently downward. The capsule is narrow and elongated, with pointed ends, and when ripe, the skin turns over and the seeds are released. They grow in colonies near waterside areas and wetlands in the mountains and fields, and are widely distributed from Hokkaido to Kyushu, Eurasia, and western North America.
