Praśastapāda (English spelling)

Japanese: プラシャスタパーダ（英語表記）Praśastapāda

A scholar of the Vaisheshika school in India, circa 450-500. He wrote a commentary on the Vaisheshika sutra, the fundamental text of the school, entitled Padārthadharma-saṅgraha (Outline of Principles and Laws), also known as Praśastapāda-bhāṣya. In this work he clarified the six principles, incorporated the presiding deity into the system, and developed a theory of knowledge, exerting a decisive influence on the system of the Vaisheshika school and the Nyāya school in later generations.

インドのバイシェーシカ学派の学匠。この学派の根本経典である《バイシェーシカ･スートラ》に対して，綱要書ともいうべき注釈書《諸原理と法との綱要(パダールタダルマ･サングラハPadārthadharma‐saṅgraha)》(別名《プラシャスタパーダ･バーシヤPraśastapāda‐bhāṣya》)を著した。この中で彼は，六原理を明確化し，主宰神を体系の中に組み入れ，知識論を整備し，後世の同学派，ならびにニヤーヤ学派の体系に決定的な影響を及ぼした。
