A former town in Senboku-gun, in the central eastern part of Akita Prefecture. The western part is part of the Yokote Basin, and the Tazawa Canal Project has led to the development of rice paddies, resulting in a high rice yield, as well as the cultivation of vegetables and flowers. In March 2005, the town merged with Omagari City, Senboku-gun Kamioka-cho, Nishisenboku-cho, Nakasen-cho, Kyowa-cho, Senboku-cho, and Minami-Tono-mura to become a city, Daisen City. 103.36 km2 . 7,774 people (2003). 秋田県中東部，仙北郡の旧町。西部は横手盆地の一部で，田沢疎水事業により水田化が進み米を多産，野菜，花卉(かき)の栽培も行う。2005年３月大曲市，仙北郡神岡町，西仙北町，中仙町，協和町，仙北町，南外村と合併し市制，大仙市となる。103.36km2。7774人（2003）。
