A former town in Yamagata County in southern Gifu Prefecture. It is located in a basin surrounded by mountains, bordering the north of Gifu City. A jin'ya (camp) was established in the main settlement during the Edo Period, and it has been the center of the county since the Meiji Period. It produces rice, wheat, soybeans, and vegetables. In recent years, it has been developed into residential areas. In April 2003, it merged with Ijira Village and Miyama Town to form Yamagata City. 39.22 km2 . Population: 18,795 (2000). 岐阜県南部,山県(やまがた)郡の旧町。周囲を山地に取り囲まれた盆地上に位置し,岐阜市の北に接する。主集落は江戸時代に陣屋が置かれ,明治以降も郡の中心。米,麦,大豆,野菜を産する。近年,宅地化が進んでいる。2003年4月,伊自良村,美山町と合併して山県(やまがた)市となる。39.22km2。1万8795人(2000)。
