Aldo Mieli

1879‐1950
A historian of science born in Italy, he later lived in France and Argentina. He first studied chemistry at the University of Pisa and worked as a chemist at the University of Rome, where he became a lecturer in 1908. He gradually became interested in research into the history and philosophy of science, and was one of the pioneers of this field during its early years. When the international academic journal on the history of science, Isis, was founded by Gal Sarton in 1912, he became its Italian editor, and went on to publish several Italian-language journals, working hard to promote recognition of the history and philosophy of science as academic disciplines.

イタリア生れ，のちフランス，アルゼンチンで過ごした科学史家。ピサ大学で初め化学を学び，ローマ大学に化学者として奉職，1908年同講師となる。しだいに科学史･科学哲学的な研究に関心を示し，この分野の設立期を担う一人となった。12年科学史の国際的学術誌《アイシスIsis》がG.A.L.サートンの手で創設されるや，同誌のイタリアの編集者となり，さらに，いくつかのイタリア語の雑誌を刊行して，科学史，科学哲学を学問として認知させることに力を尽くした。
