A film production and distribution company founded in 1942 as Daiei Eiga Seisakusho for wartime unification. It merged the production divisions of Shinko Kinema, Daito Eiga, and the former Nikkatsu. The first president was Kikuchi Kan, and after the war Nagata Masaichi took over, and the company pioneered overseas expansion with "Rashomon." It is known for period dramas starring Hasegawa Kazuo, Ichikawa Raizo, and Katsu Shintaro. The company was headquartered in Tokyo, with film studios in Tokyo and Kyoto, but went bankrupt in December 1971 due to poor performance. It was rebuilt as Daiei Eiga Co., Ltd. in 1974 and began producing television and video films. In 2003, it was acquired by Kadokawa Shoten and became Kadokawa Daiei Eiga Co., Ltd.
