A former town in Asakura County, central Fukuoka Prefecture. Occupying the southwestern slope of the Mikuni Mountains and the alluvial fan in the northern part of the Chikushi Plain, rice farming is thriving, and vegetables, fruit, and livestock are also cultivated. National Routes 200 and 386 pass through the town, and many people commute to Fukuoka City. In March 2005, it merged with Miwa Town, Asakura County, to become a town called Chikuzen Town. 45.47 km2 .
