An ancient Greek city on the Adriatic coast. It was jointly colonized by Corcyra (Cercyra) and Corinth (Corinthos) around 625 BC. In 435 BC, the democratic faction that took control sought help from the oligarchy in a counterattack, drawing the two mother cities into conflict and sparking the Peloponnesian War.
