Esan - Esan
A double volcano (→ composite volcano) located on the eastern end of the Kameda Peninsula in southwestern Hokkaido. It is an active volcano that is constantly under observation. It is 618m above sea level. It is located at the eastern end of Hakodate City. It belongs to the Nasu volcanic belt, and its outer rim is 350-400m above sea level, with a crater floor 2km in diameter. The central cone, Esan, is located on the eastern edge of the crater floor, and is an andesitic lava dome (bell-shaped volcano) with an elliptical crater 500m in diameter at its summit. Destruction has progressed on the west side, and sulfur erupts from numerous sulfur vents. The crater floor is called "Goten" and has an area of ​​34,000m2 and an elevation of 300-400m. An eruption in 1846 caused volcanic mudflows, resulting in many deaths. It is home to a colony of alpine plants such as azaleas, dwarf rhododendrons, black crows, and rock pines. There are also many hot springs, and the mountainside is known as a ski resort. It is close to scenic spots such as Hiura Beach and Cape Esan, and is the center of Esan Prefectural Natural Park.

Esan

This is a former town area in the southeast of Hakodate City, in southwest Hokkaido. It is located at the tip of the Kameda Peninsula. In 1964, it was incorporated as a town and became Shirigishinai Town, and in 1985, it was renamed Esan Town. In 2004, it was incorporated into Hakodate City. The main industry is fishing, with squid fishing, kelp harvesting, and sea urchin farming being carried out. There are many tourist spots such as Hiura Beach, Esan (618m), Ishida Onsen, and Misakihama Onsen, and the entire coastline has been designated as Esan Prefectural Natural Park.

北海道南西部,函館市南東部の旧町域。亀田半島の先端に位置する。 1964年町制が施行され尻岸内町となり,1985年恵山町に名称変更。 2004年函館市に編入。主産業は漁業で,イカ釣り,コンブ採取,ウニ養殖などが行なわれる。日浦海岸,恵山 (618m) ,石田温泉,御崎浜温泉などの観光地が多く,海岸一帯は恵山道立自然公園に指定。
