…Its main function is to promote gastric acid secretion. It was discovered in 1905 by J.S.Edkins of England, and in 1964 its structural formula was determined by R.A.Gregory and H.J.Tracy of the United States as a polypeptide consisting of 17 amino acids. It was later discovered that the majority of gastrins in the blood consist of 34 amino acids, and the one with 17 is called little gastrin, and the one with 34 is called big gastrin. …
