...Needless to say, the former technique came first, and the latter was developed to make it easier to create larger works and to prevent cracks that would occur when bronze contracted. The techniques for making the interior of this sculpture hollow include lost wax (French for cire-perdue) and sand casting. When creating large sculptures, the head, torso, arms, and legs were cast separately and then joined together, allowing for greater freedom of expression.
