A Turkish reform movement centered around the Committee of Union and Progress, which was formed in Istanbul around 1889 by young people. It aimed to overthrow the tyranny of Abdül Hamid II and restore constitutionalism. It declined for a time, but succeeded in the Young Turk Revolution of 1908 and took power the following year.
