A dormant volcano in the north-central part of the Big Island of Hawaii, Hawaii, USA. With an elevation of 4,205m, it is the highest peak in the Hawaiian Islands. The summit is often covered in snow, and the name of the mountain means "white mountain." It is a shield volcano that rises 9,600m above the seabed, making it the highest volcano in the world. Glacial lakes such as Lake Waiau and moraines can be seen at the top. It is known as a tourist destination for skiing and hunting, and coffee is cultivated on the foothills. [Yagasaki Noritaka]
