He is also known as Daosheng. He was a Buddhist philosopher who played a central role in the fundamental turning point of Chinese thought history from the end of the Eastern Jin Dynasty to the Liu Song Dynasty. His original surname was from Julu (Hebei Province), Wei. He was a disciple of Zhu Fattu (320-387), a fellow disciple of Shakya Daoan, and studied under Huiyuan, Sanghadeva, and Kumarajiva (Kumarajiva) in Chang'an. He had deep academic exchanges with Sengzhao and Xie Lingyun, who were disciples of Kumarajiva. In response to the fundamental question that the Chinese intellectual world was concerned with at the time, "Can all human beings become saints?", he introduced the distinction between the true and the mundane in Kumarajiva's philosophy and presented the theory of sudden enlightenment and enlightenment, and also immediately accepted the theory of Buddha nature in the 'Nilsutra' handed down by Faxian, and presented the theory of enlightenment and enlightenment.
