Wentworth, WC (English spelling) WentworthWC

... refers to convicts who remained in Australia after completing their sentences. It is also the name of a pressure group led by William C. Wentworth (1790-1872), a lawyer and politician whose parents were convicts, that campaigned for equal rights for former convicts. From the start of settlement in 1788 to the end of convict acceptance in 1868, about 175,000 convicts were sent to Australia, and they became the core labor force in the early days of development, working on public works projects to build settlements and lending them to private households as unpaid labor.
