…The Arctic Small Stone Tool Tradition is widely distributed from southwestern Alaska and the Alaska Peninsula along the Arctic Ocean to northern Alaska, the Canadian Arctic Islands, and Greenland. Because this distribution area overlaps roughly with the distribution area of the Eskimo in historical times, it is interpreted as representing the oldest layer of Eskimo culture and has been considered to indicate the origin of Eskimo culture.
