A samurai who was active from the late Heian period onwards, based in Sumida Manor in Ito County, Kii Province. Sumida Manor was established as the territory of Iwashimizu Hachimangu Shrine at the end of the 10th century, and Iwashimizu Hachimangu Shrine founded Sumida Hachimangu Shrine within the manor. Naga Tadanobu, a local powerful clan, was appointed official official of Sumida Manor and lay chief priest of Sumida Hachimangu Shrine in 1118 (Gen'ei 1), and these positions were hereditary. The Naga clan was an ancient powerful clan centered in Naka County, and had been appointed as Naka County governor, etc., but after Tadanobu's son Tadamura, they called themselves the Fujiwara clan, and then in the Kamakura period, they took the name Sumida clan, organized powerful peasants into a clan, and became its head family.
