A samurai who was active from the late Heian period onwards, based in Sumida Manor in Ito County, Kii Province. Sumida Manor was established as the territory of Iwashimizu Hachimangu Shrine at the end of the 10th century, and Iwashimizu Hachimangu Shrine founded Sumida Hachimangu Shrine within the manor. Naga Tadanobu, a local powerful clan, was appointed official official of Sumida Manor and lay chief priest of Sumida Hachimangu Shrine in 1118 (Gen'ei 1), and these positions were hereditary. The Naga clan was an ancient powerful clan centered in Naka County, and had been appointed as Naka County governor, etc., but after Tadanobu's son Tadamura, they called themselves the Fujiwara clan, and then in the Kamakura period, they took the name Sumida clan, organized powerful peasants into a clan, and became its head family. 平安後期以後,紀伊国伊都郡隅田荘に拠って活躍した武士。隅田荘は10世紀末に石清水八幡宮領として成立し,石清水八幡宮は荘内に隅田八幡宮を創建した。在地豪族の長忠延は1118年(元永1)隅田荘公文職,隅田八幡宮俗別当職に任ぜられ,それらが世襲された。長氏は那賀郡を中心とし,那賀郡司などに就任した古来の豪族であるが,忠延の子忠村以後は藤原氏を称し,さらに鎌倉時代に入って隅田氏を名のり,有力農民を一族に編成,その惣領家となった。
