Born December 14, 1956 in Straubing, Germany. Liechtenstein alpine skier. At the 1976 Innsbruck Winter Olympics, she won the bronze medal, bringing the first medal for Liechtenstein. At the 1980 Lake Placid Winter Olympics, she won two gold medals and one silver medal, making her the most accomplished woman in alpine skiing at the Olympics, along with Rogi Mittermeier. Born in Germany (West Germany), she moved to Liechtenstein at the age of one. Her specialty is slalom, which she won at the 1974 World Championships, and she gained attention in the alpine skiing world. At the 1980 Lake Placid Olympics, she also showed overwhelming strength in slalom, setting the fastest times in both runs and winning the gold medal. She also won the giant slalom and placed second in her weakest event, the downhill. She also won the overall World Cup in the same year. 1980 was also a special year for Wenzel and Liechtenstein, as his brother Andreas won a silver medal in the giant slalom at the Lake Placid Olympics and the overall World Cup title. He was unable to compete in the 1984 Sarajevo Winter Olympics due to a commercial contract, and announced his retirement after the 1984 season. During his 13-year competitive career, he won 33 World Cup titles and won the overall title twice, in 1978 and 1980.
