Japanese: 大和田重清日記 - おおわだしげきよにっき

The diary of Owada Omi Shigekiyo, a retainer of the Satake clan. It is in one volume and covers the period from April 18th to December 29th, 1593 (Bunroku 2). The cover reads "Second," and only the second volume remains. The first half describes life in the camp at Nagoya, Hizen, when he accompanied Satake Yoshinobu during the Bunroku Invasion, and the journey home along the Sanyo and Tosando roads from August to leap September, while the second half describes life in Hitachi. It is an excellent historical material that gives insight into the living conditions of a mid-ranking samurai of the time, including scenes from the camp, transportation conditions, and daily expenses. Formerly owned by the Satake clan, a copy is held by the Historiographical Institute of the University of Tokyo. [Kato Masumi]

佐竹氏家臣大和田近江重清の日記。文禄2年(1593)4月18日から12月29日までの1巻。表紙に〈第二〉とあり，現存は2冊目のみ。前半は文禄の役で佐竹義宣に従った肥前名護屋での陣中生活，8月から閏9月の山陽道，東山道の帰国道中をはさみ，後半は常陸での生活を描く。当時の中級武士の目を通した在陣風景，交通事情，日常諸経費など生活状況を知る好史料。佐竹家旧蔵で写本は東大史料編纂所蔵。【加藤益幹】
