Born: June 9, 1824 in Dresden Died April 19, 1868. German economist from Biedbaden. After receiving his doctorate at the University of Tübingen, he went on to study at the University of Göttingen, and in 1862 became a professor at the University of Freiburg. His main work is Grundrißder Volkswirtschaftslehre (1863), which consists of an introduction, a theory of production, a theory of circulation, a theory of distribution, and a theory of consumption, and is a theoretical work that also absorbs the results of British classical economics. In particular, Mangoldt clearly describes the diminishing returns (increasing production costs) and increasing returns (decreasing production costs) that accompany increased production, and is highly regarded from the perspective of today's production theory. He also points out that, depending on the shape of the demand and supply curves, it is impossible to exclude cases where there are multiple equilibrium points. His other well-known work is Die Lehre vom Unternehmergewinn (55), The Theory of Entrepreneurial Profits.
