This is an archaeological site from the early Mesolithic Magremosian culture, located 8km south of Scarborough in Yorkshire, close to the east coast of England facing the North Sea. Carbon-14 dating dates it to 7500 BC. In a lakeside marshland overgrown with reeds and surrounded by birch forest, birch trunks and branches were laid out over an area of 200m2, with soil and stones added to create a foundation, and it seems that four or five "families" lived there from winter through April. The population was estimated from the total number of animal bones, and the period of residence was assumed from the presence of deer skulls, which naturally shed their horns between January and April.
