Around 1397 - 1468 Italian painter. Born in Padua, he worked as a tailor until his mid-30s. His career as a painter is unknown, and only two mediocre works remain that are attributed to him. He was the teacher of the so-called Paduan School of painters, including his adopted sons A. Mantegna, C. Tura, Schiavone (c. 1434-1504), and Maro Zoppo (1433-78). However, records remain of disputes over employment relationships with these painters, and the actual state of their master-disciple relationships is not entirely clear.
