A theater magazine. First published in February 1879, it went through 1,669 issues and ceased publication in March 1897. It was first published by Kabuki Shinposha and later by Genrokukan. In the early days, it was edited by Kanagaki Robun and others, and included theater reviews, chronicles, news and biographies of actors, as well as the first printed scripts. It later partnered with the Japan Engei Association and cooperated with the theater reform movement, reflecting the state of the theater world at the time, making it a valuable document. 演劇雑誌。 1879年2月創刊,通巻 1669号を数え,97年3月廃刊。初め歌舞伎新報社,のちに玄鹿館の発行。初期には仮名垣魯文らの編集で,劇評,年代記,俳優の消息や伝記などのほか,台本を初めて活字化し,掲載した。その後日本演芸協会と提携し,演劇改良運動に協力するなど,当時の劇壇事情を反映しており,資料価値が高い。
