Japanese: モシ族 - モシぞく（英語表記）Mossi

A black tribe living in the savannah region of inland West Africa, Burkina Faso (formerly Upper Volta). Population: 2 million. Physically, they have the characteristics of Sudanese blacks, such as tall stature, long head, flat and wide nose, and protruding chin. Their language belongs to the Guru (Volta) group of the Niger-Congo language family, as classified by Greenberg, and has two tones, high and low, with no clearly defined noun classes. They cultivate grains such as pearl millet and sorghum by slash-and-burn cultivation, which is highly mobile, and intercrop beans such as yarrow and bambara groundnut at the base of the grains.

西アフリカ内陸のサバンナ地帯，ブルキナ･ファソ(旧，オートボルタ)に住む黒人の部族。人口約200万。形質的には，高身長，長頭，扁平で広い鼻，突顎など，スーダン黒人の特徴が認められる。言語は，グリンバーグの分類によるニジェール･コンゴ語派のうちのグル(ボルタ)語群に属し，高低二つの音調をもち，名詞クラスは明確に形成されていない。トウジンビエ，モロコシなどの穀物を，移動性の大きい焼畑によって栽培し，その根元に，ヤッコササゲ，バンバラマメなどの豆類を混作する。
