A mystical philosopher active in Alexandria in the first half of the 3rd century. His birth and death years, birthplace, and academic lineage are unknown. Given his nickname, "theodidaklōs," or "he who is taught by God," he was likely a natural mystic or an initiator of mysteries. Like Socrates, he left no written works, but he produced three great masters of late antiquity under his disciples: Plotinus, founder of the Neoplatonic school, Christian theologian Origen, and rhetorician Longinus.
