Sangun Mountains

Japanese:
Sangun Mountains

A 60-kilometer arc-shaped mountain range stretching from the Munakata coast to Mt. Hidehiko (1,199 meters) in the southeast in central Fukuoka Prefecture. It is part of the Tsukushi Mountains. The mountain range is made up mainly of Mesozoic granite and Mt. Migun metamorphic rocks, with Mt. Nishi (645 meters), Mt. Hokotate (663 meters), Mt. Homan (869 meters), Mt. Kosho (860 meters), and Mt. Umami (978 meters) lining up from the north, dividing Fukuoka Prefecture into east and west. Because it is a fault mountain range, it has long been a traffic hazard despite its altitude, but now the main roads cross Inunaki Pass (367m), Yagiyama Pass (228m), and Hiyamizu Pass (283m) to connect the Fukuoka and Chikuho districts, while the JR Kagoshima Main Line, Sasaguri Line, and Chikuho Main Line also pass through it through tunnels, overcoming these obstacles. Cedar tree planting is progressing south of Inunakiyama, and the mountains of Sangun and Homan are included in Dazaifu Prefectural Natural Park, and the area around Furushiroyama is included in Chikugogawa Prefectural Natural Park, so there are many hikers.
