Japanese: 湘江評論 - しょうこうひょうろん（英語表記）Xiāng jiāng píng lùn

This was the organ newspaper of the Hunan Student Union during the May Fourth Movement in China. It was first published on July 14, 1919, and published five weekly issues, but was banned by the warlords in early August. Edited by Mao Zedong with the aim of raising the political consciousness of those who participated in the movement and encouraging ideological awareness, it also serialized his first political essay, "The Great Union of the People." Modelled on the Beijing Weekly Commentary, it was a four-page tabloid, used colloquial writing, and had a high theoretical standard. It is said to have had a circulation of 5,000. [Ono Shinji]

中国，五･四運動当時の湖南学生連合会の機関紙。1919年7月14日に創刊され，週刊で5号を発行したが，8月上旬，軍閥によって禁止された。運動に参加した人々の政治意識を高め，思想的自覚をうながすことを目的に毛沢東が編集し，彼の最初の政治論文〈民衆の大連合〉もこれに連載した。北京の《毎周評論》の体裁にならいタブロイド判4ページ，口語文を用い，理論水準も高かった。発行部数は5000に達したという。【小野信爾】
