Kanmon Yogisho

…He also studied Tendai Buddhism under Ganren of Hino and Ben'ajari Masaharu, and during the persecution in 1207 (Shogen 1), he was entrusted to Jien, the brother of Kanezane and head priest of Shoren-in Temple, and avoided exile. After Honen's death, he lived in Bessho Ojo-in (later Sanko-ji) of Nishiyama Zenpo-ji Temple, on Jien's behalf, and lectured on Zendo's works, including the Commentary on the Contemplation of the Muryoju Sutra, in the capital and beyond, leaving behind the 41-volume Kanmon Yogisho. It may have been because of this background that he avoided exile during the persecution in 1227 (Ansei 1), and also because his teachings, such as the theory of Anshin Ryokai, incorporated the doctrines of the Tendai sect. …

…また日野の願蓮と弁阿闍梨政春に天台宗を学び，1207年(承元1)の法難のときには，兼実の弟で青蓮院（しようれんいん）門跡の慈円に預けられ，遠流を免れた。法然の滅後慈円の譲りを受けて西山善峰寺の別所往生院(のちの参鈷（さんこ）寺)に住み，洛中洛外で《観無量寿経疏》をはじめ善導の著を講じ，《観門要義鈔》41巻として残した。27年(安貞1)の法難のときも流罪を免れたのは，このような背景があり，説くところ安心領解の説などが天台宗の教義もとり込んでいたからでもあろう。…
