The British national coal company. After World War II, the British coal industry was nationalized under the Labour government in July 1946 with the passage of the Coal Mines Nationalization Act. At the same time, the Coal Board was established as the organization responsible for managing the industry. The Minister of Energy holds administrative and financial control over the Coal Board. Under the Coal Board are nine regional coal boards, which are further divided into regions, with each regional general manager managing the individual coal mines and coal mine managers.
