Nippon Advertising Co., Ltd. and Telegraph Communication Co., Ltd., founded in 1901, merged in 1907 to become Nippon Telegraph Communication Co., Ltd., and in 1936, the communication division was merged with Domei Tsushinsha to become a specialized advertising company. After World War II, the company made great strides under Hideo Yoshida's proactive management. In 1955, the company changed its name to its current one. The company is particularly strong in the television division. In recent years, the company has expanded its business in a wide range of areas, such as sports business and digital content, with the aim of becoming a comprehensive communications company. It was listed on the First Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange in November 2001. In 2003, it moved to a new building in Shiodome. In 2011, the company's capital was 58.9 billion yen, and sales for the fiscal year ending March 2011 were 1.8334 trillion yen.
