He was a close friend of the Babylonian-Assyrian hero Gilgamesh. He was once called Eabani. He was a hairy monster created by the gods to subjugate Gilgamesh, who was tyrannical towards the local people. After he was defeated by Gilgamesh in a fierce fight like that between bulls, they became best friends and went together to conquer Huva (or Humbaba), the guardian of the cedar forest. He then incurred the wrath of the goddess Ishtar, and died after suffering from an illness for 12 days as decreed by the gods. バビロニア=アッシリアの英雄ギルガメシュの親友。かつてはエアバニ Eabaniと読まれていた。住民に横暴なギルガメシュを制する目的で,神々により創造された毛むくじゃらの怪人。雄牛同士のような激しい格闘の末,ギルガメシュに敗れたあとで無二の親友となり,ともに杉の森の番人フワワ (あるいはフンババ) 征伐に行く。その後,女神イシュタルの怒りを買い,神々の定めにより 12日間病気で苦しんだのちに没した。
