An island located in the northeastern part of Ehime Prefecture, almost in the center of the Geiyo Islands. It belongs to Kamijima Town, Ochi County. The island is triangular in shape, with an area of 8.95 square kilometers. It is 48 kilometers from Imabari and 50 kilometers from Onomichi, and is serviced by boat. In the early modern period, it flourished as a key location for shipping along the Seto Inland Sea under the control of the Matsuyama Domain. The island is developing agricultural and marine products, including its specialty lemons. The Kannon Hall of Shounji Temple is a nationally designated important cultural property, and the giant boat-shaped phillyraeoides tree on the temple grounds is a prefecturally designated natural monument.
