This temple belongs to the Shingon sect of Buddhism, Sennyuji-ji school, located in Ogigayatsu, Kamakura, Kanagawa Prefecture. It is called Senkokusan. It was built by Hojo Nagatoki in 1251 (Kencho 3). The founder was a Shin'a of the Jodo sect. During the time of the third abbot, Chian Koue, he studied the four sects of Shingon, Tendai, Kegon, and Vinaya. In 1333 (Ganko 3/Shokei 2), the temple became a place of imperial prayer for Emperor Godaigo, and the brothers Ashikaga Takauji and Tadayoshi also became believers. In 1399 (Oei 6), Ashikaga Mitsukane placed some of the bones of his grandfather Motouji and father Ujimitsu in the temple, and the temple prospered after receiving confirmation of its land from successive Kamakura kubo (Kubō). During the Edo period, Tokugawa Ieyasu also donated land to the temple. The Amida Triad, the main image of the temple, is a representative example of Kamakura sculpture and is a National Important Cultural Property. The Jizo Bodhisattva (Prefectural Cultural Property) is said to be the guardian Buddha of Ashikaga Tadayoshi, and is commonly known as Yahiroi Jizo. On the mountain behind the temple are a stone stupa (a nationally important cultural property) and the grave (a national historic site) of Reizei Tamesuke, a poet of the mid-Kamakura period who went to Kamakura with his mother Abutsuni after fighting with his brother Tameuji over the Wakadokoro.
