A massacre of Indian civilians by British troops in the wake of protests against the Rowlatt Act, enacted after World War I. On April 13, 1919, in Amritsar, Punjab, fully armed British troops led by Brigadier General R.E.H. Dyer entered the crowd of about 20,000 civilians protesting the arrest of two ethnic leaders, and fired indiscriminately, killing and wounding more than 1,500. 第1次大戦後発令された治安維持法(ローラット法)への抗議の声に沸き立つインドでおこったイギリス軍隊による大量住民虐殺。1919年4月13日,パンジャーブ州アムリッツァル市内で,2人の民族指導者の逮捕に抗議して集まった約2万の市民の間にイギリス准将R.E.H.ダイヤー率いる完全武装の軍隊が乗り込み,無差別発砲により1500人以上の死傷者を出した。事件のおきた市内の地名をとってジャリアンワーラー・バーグ事件と通称されている。
