Liberal Party

Japanese: 自由党 - ジユウトウ

A political party founded in 1881 by Taisuke Itagaki. It advocated French-style radical liberalism. It was dissolved in 1884.
After the Daido Unity Movement, Ooi Kentaro and others revived the party in 1890. After the first general election, it joined forces with the Daido Club and the Aikoku Koto to form the Constitutional Liberal Party, which was renamed the Liberal Party the following year. In 1898, it merged with the Progressive Party to become the Constitutional Party.
A political party founded in 1945 as the Japan Liberal Party with Ichiro Hatoyama as its president. After Hatoyama was purged from public office, Shigeru Yoshida became president and organized the First Yoshida Cabinet. It was later renamed the Democratic Liberal Party. In 1950, the coalition parties of the Democratic Party merged to form the Liberal Party, and in 1955, it merged with the Japan Democratic Party to form the Liberal Democratic Party.
This political party was formed in April 1994 by members of the Liberal Democratic Party who had previously left the party in order to make Michio Watanabe the prime minister of a non-LDP government after the resignation of the Hosokawa Morihiro Cabinet. In the end, Watanabe was not able to join, and the party became a coalition partner of the Shinseito Cabinet led by Tsutomu Hata, but was dissolved in December of the same year when the Shinshinto Party was formed.
A conservative political party formed by Ichiro Ozawa and others in 1998 following the split of the Shinshinto. In January 1999, it formed a coalition government with the Liberal Democratic Party. In October of the same year, the Komeito Party joined, and the Liberal Party withdrew from the coalition government the following year. At this time, members of the Diet who opposed the withdrawal founded the Conservative Party, resulting in a split. In 2003, it was dissolved following a merger with the Democratic Party.
A political party that changed its name from "Your Life Party and Taro Yamamoto and Friends" in 2016. In April 2019, it merged with the Democratic Party for the People.
Liberal party : A British political party. Its predecessor was the Whig Party, which was renamed in the 1830s by the party's radicals. It took turns in power with the Conservative Party, but declined after World War I due to the advance of the Labour Party. It became the Liberal Democratic Party at the end of the 20th century.

明治14年（1881）板垣退助を中心に結成された政党。フランス流急進的自由主義を唱えた。明治17年（1884）解散。
大同団結運動ののち、明治23年（1890）に大井憲太郎らがを再興した政党。第1回総選挙後、大同倶楽部・愛国公党と合同して立憲自由党を結成、翌年自由党に改称。明治31年（1898）進歩党と合同し憲政党に改組。
昭和20年（1945）鳩山一郎を総裁に日本自由党として発足した政党。鳩山の公職追放後、吉田茂が総裁となり第一次吉田内閣を組織。のちに民主自由党と改称。昭和25年（1950）民主党の連立派を併せて自由党となり、昭和30年（1955）に日本民主党と合同して自由民主党となる。
平成6年（1994）4月、細川護煕内閣の退陣後、自由民主党の渡辺美智雄を非自民政権の首相にするため、先行して同党を離党した議員らが結成した政党。結局、渡辺の参加を得られず新生党の羽田孜内閣の連立与党となり、同年12月新進党結成により解散。
平成10年（1998）に新進党の分党に伴い小沢一郎らが結成した保守政党。平成11年（1999）1月自由民主党と連立政権を組織。同年10月公明党が加わると、翌年自由党は連立政権を離脱。この際、離脱に反対した議員が保守党を旗揚げし分裂。平成15年（2003）民主党との合併に伴い解散。
平成28年（2016）に「生活の党と山本太郎となかまたち」から党名変更をした政党。平成31年（2019）4月に国民民主党に合流。
《Liberal party》英国の政党。ホイッグ党を前身として、1830年代に同党の急進派を中心として改称。保守党と交互に政権を担当したが、労働党の進出などで第一次大戦後は衰退。20世紀末に自由民主党となった。
