Japanese: 復刻(覆刻) - ふっこく

When a publication whose printing plate has already been lost is republished, it is produced by faithfully reproducing the original in all aspects, including the printing method, text, layout, binding, and paper quality. In the case of woodblock printing, the original print was used as the block copy to carve the woodblock for the reprint, and the reprint was done, which is also called "kabusebouri." In recent years, even originals made by woodblock or letterpress have been meticulously reprinted using offset printing, but strictly speaking this cannot be called a reprint. In any case, reprinting is done based on the documentary value and rarity of the original.

すでに印刷用原版が失われている出版物を再刊するとき，印刷方式をはじめ文字，組体裁，装丁，紙質などすべてにわたって原本の姿を忠実に再現して作製することをいう。木版印刷の場合は，原本の刷本を版下として用いて復刻用の板木を彫り，再刊する方法がとられたが，これを〈かぶせぼり〉とも称する。近年は木版や活版による原本でも，オフセット印刷によって精巧な復刻が行われるが，厳密な意味では復刻とはいいがたい。いずれにしても復刻は，原本のもつ資料的価値，希覯（きこう）性にもとづいて行われる。
