A Japanese dictionary. 2 volumes. Written by Toroku Hanou (a monk from the foot of Mt. Higashiyama, real name unknown). It is said to have been completed in 1444 (Bun'an 1). It classifies about 3,000 words, mainly Chinese characters and words used in daily life, into 18 categories, from heaven and earth to words and double letters. It seems to have been widely used during the Muromachi period, and there are more than 30 old manuscripts that exist from before the Keicho period (1596-1615). The oldest printed version was published in 1617 (Genwa 3). However, since the later "Setsuyoshu" was arranged in Iroha order and was easy to search, it was not widely published during the Edo period. The title comes from "Gegaku Jijo Tatsu" in the "Xianwen" chapter of the "Analects of Confucius." [Takuya Okimori] A practical Japanese dictionary with a classification system. It classifies and explains about 3,000 words from the Muromachi period into 18 categories. Volume 1 "Tenchimon Daiichi" by Toroku Hajime, printed version published in 1617 (Genwa 3), held at the National Diet Library .
