A mountain in the southwest of Jiangsu Province, China, east of Nanjing city. It is also called Zhongshan. It stretches about 7km east to west and 3km north to south with three peaks, the middle peak being the highest at 448m above sea level. The western peak is home to the Purple Mountain Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Along with Xuanwu Lake to the west, it is one of the famous sites in Central China, and on the southern foot of the mountain are the Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum, the Xiaoling Mausoleum of Emperor Hongwu of the Ming Dynasty, and Linggu Temple, attracting both domestic and foreign tourists as a leisure destination on the outskirts of Nanjing.
