A Berber Arab traveler, also known as Ibn Baṭūṭa, who is said to have died in 1377. Born in Tangier, Morocco, he left his hometown in 1325 at the age of 22 with the intention of making the pilgrimage to Mecca. He traveled overland from Egypt to Syria and then to Mecca, then traveled through Iraq, the Arabian Peninsula, and Asia Minor, staying in Delhi for over eight years from 33. He then passed through Sumatra and reached Quanzhou and Dadu (Beijing) under the Yuan dynasty, before returning to Fes in 49 via India, Syria, and Egypt.

ベルベル系のアラブ人旅行家。イブン・バトゥータIbn Baṭūṭaともいう。1377年没ともいわれる。モロッコのタンジールに生まれ,1325年,22歳の時メッカ巡礼を志して故郷を出発,陸路エジプトを経てシリアからメッカに巡礼した後,イラク,アラビア半島,小アジアを旅して33年から8年余りデリーに滞在した。次いでスマトラを経て元朝治下の泉州,大都(北京)に至り,再びインド,シリア,エジプトを経由して49年フェスに帰還した。
