Born: December 13, 1363. Gerson Lance [Died] July 12, 1429. Lyon. The most prominent church leader and theologian in late medieval France. His Latin name was Johannes Gersonius. He is known as the "most Christian doctor." He was a student of Ailly, and in 1395 he succeeded his teacher as rector of the University of Paris. He devoted his energy to resolving the Great Schism in Europe, and supported the Council of Pisa (1409) as a council, on the basis of the primacy of the council, and played a leading role in the Council of Constance (14-18). He also participated in the expulsion of J. Petit, who preached the condemnation of Hus. He also preached the need for prayer and sacrifice to reform the church. Theologically, he advocated repentance and humility with the absolute will of God at its core, and in search of a simple and pure faith, he advocated a return to the Bible and the Church Fathers. He was also influenced by Bonaventure and the Saint Victorines, and approached mysticism, and has been likened to the author of "Imitation of Christ." Main author: "Contra vanam curiositatem in negotio fidei", "Traité contre le Roman de la Rose" (02), "Consolatio theologiae" (18).
