A type of aromatic dicarboxylic acid. Also known as m(meta)-benzenedicarboxylic acid. It is produced by oxidizing m-xylene. Colorless crystals. Soluble in acetic acid, acetone, ethanol (ethyl alcohol), etc., but almost insoluble in hydrocarbon solvents. It is acidic and forms salts with various metals, and reacts with various alcohols in the presence of sulfuric acid to form diesters. It is used as a polyester modifier and a raw material for heat-resistant polymers.
