Tsukinooka Tomb - Tsukinooka Tomb
This keyhole-shaped tumulus is located in Wakamiya, Yoshii-cho, Ukiha-gun, Fukuoka Prefecture. It is located on the alluvial plain on the left bank of the Chikugo River, and was built facing west within the grounds of Wakamiya Hachiman Shrine. It measures 95m in length, 50m in diameter at the rear mound, and 40m in width at the front. Traces of a moat remain around the perimeter, and various figurative haniwa clay figures have been erected on the mound. In 1805 (Bunka 2), a burial facility was excavated from the rear mound, containing a vertical stone chamber containing a chest-shaped stone coffin, and numerous artifacts were unearthed. Excavated items include mirrors, jewels, armor, belt fittings, horse equipment, swords, koroku, and iron arrowheads, and are illustrated in detail in Yano Kazusada's Chikugo Shoshi Gundan.
