A reaction to introduce the cyanoethyl group CNCH ₂ CH ₂ -. Organic compounds with active hydrogen (amines, alcohols, thiols, ketones, aldehydes, enamines, etc.) react with acrylonitrile in the presence of a base (caustic potassium KOH, amines) or a Lewis acid (AlCl ₃ ), replacing the active hydrogen with a cyanoethyl group (equation (1)). CH ₂ ＝CHCN＋RH→RCH ₂ CH ₂ CN ……(1) This reaction can be regarded as the Michael addition of a nucleophilic reagent R ^- to acrylonitrile.

シアノエチル基CNCH₂CH₂－を導入する反応。活性水素をもつ有機化合物(アミン，アルコール，チオール，ケトン，アルデヒド，エナミンなど)は塩基(苛性カリKOH，アミン)やルイス酸(AlCl₃)などの存在下でアクリロニトリルと反応して，活性水素がシアノエチル基に置換される(式(1))。　CH₂＝CHCN＋RH→RCH₂CH₂CN　……(1)　この反応はアクリロニトリルに対する求核試薬R^－のマイケル付加とみなすことができる。
