Shandong - Santo

Japanese: 山東 - さんとう

This is the former town area in the central-southern part of Maibara City, in the northeastern part of Shiga Prefecture. It is located in the southern part of the Ibuki Mountain Range and the northern part of the Suzuka Mountain Range. In 1955, the three villages of Higashikuroda, Kashiwara, and Ohara merged to form a town. In 2005, it merged with Ibuki Town and Maibara Town to form Maibara City. Kashiwara, the central area, developed as a post town on the Nakasendo road during the Edo period. In the Middle Ages, it was the residence of the Kyogoku clan, and is home to the Kyogoku family graveyard at Kiyotaki-dera Temple, which, together with the grave of Kitabatake Tomoyuki, is designated as a national historic site. Rice farming and forestry are the main industries, and Ibuki mugwort is a specialty product. The area around Amanogawa Bridge is known as the "Nagaoka Genji Firefly and its habitat," a special national natural monument. Nagaoka is the base for climbing Mt. Ibuki.

Shandong

This is the former town area in the eastern part of Asago City, in central Hyogo Prefecture. It is located in the Awaka River basin, a tributary of the Maruyama River, and borders Kyoto Prefecture to the northeast. It was established in 1954 by merging the towns of Yanase, Awaka, and Yofuto. The town's name comes from the fact that the three towns and villages before the merger were long known as the San'in Three Villages. In 2005, it merged with the towns of Nenino, Wadayama, and Asago to form Asago City. Yanase, the central settlement, is a key transportation hub where the Kyo-kaido and Tamba-kaido roads intersect, and has long been home to textile and sake brewing industries. Other industries include hosiery. Awaka is a buckwheat producing area, and dairy farming is carried out in the surrounding areas. The southern part of the town belongs to the Asago Gunzan Prefectural Natural Park.

滋賀県北東部，米原市中南部の旧町域。伊吹山地の南部，鈴鹿山脈の北部に位置する。 1955年東黒田村，柏原村，大原村の3村が合体し町制。 2005年伊吹町，米原町と合体して米原市となった。中心地区の柏原は江戸時代中山道の宿場町として発達した。中世，京極氏の居住地で，清滝寺京極家墓所があり，北畠具行の墓とともに国の史跡に指定。米作，林業が主で，伊吹もぐさを特産。天野川橋一帯は国の特別天然記念物「長岡のゲンジボタルおよびその発生地」として知られる。長岡は伊吹山への登山基地。

山東
さんとう

兵庫県中部，朝来市東部の旧町域。円山川の支流粟鹿川流域にあり，北東は京都府に接する。 1954年梁瀬町，粟鹿村，与布土村が合体して発足。町名は合併前の3町村が古くから山東三村と呼ばれていたことによる。 2005年生野町，和田山町，朝来町の3町と合体して朝来市となった。中心集落の梁瀬は京街道，丹波街道が交わる交通の要地で，古くから織物業，酒造業が発達。ほかにメリヤス工業などがある。粟鹿はソバの産地。周辺では酪農が行なわれる。南部は朝来群山県立自然公園に属する。
