A province in the eastern part of North China. Its abbreviated name is Lu. Its capital is Jinan. It is a hilly peninsula in the east facing the Yellow Sea, with the Taiyi Mountains in the midwest and the Central Plains to the west. 60% of the province's land area is arable land, making it an important agricultural production area in China. Transportation is convenient with three railways (Tianjin to Pukou), Jiaoji (Jinan to Qingdao), and Lanyan (Lancun to Yantai), and well-developed roads. For maritime transport, there are routes from the seaports of Qingdao, Yantai, and Weihai to Dalian and Tianjin. In addition, the Yellow River, canals, and Xiaoqing River are major inland river routes. Agricultural products include wheat, peanuts, cotton, tobacco, tussah silk, and fruit, marine products include salt and seafood, and minerals include coal, gold, iron, and aluminum. Modern industries include spinning, silk-reeling, machinery, chemicals, cement, matches, oil extraction, and shipbuilding, while traditional industries include weaving, ceramics, and bricks. 中国，華北地方東部の省。簡称は魯(ろ)。省都は済南(さいなん)。東部は丘陵性の半島で黄海に臨み，中西部には泰沂(たいきん)山地があって西に中原を望む。省面積の60％は耕地で中国の重要な農業生産地帯をなす。交通は津浦（天津〜浦口）・膠済（済南〜青島）・藍烟（藍村〜烟台）の３鉄路と，平均して発達した道路によって便利で，海運は青島・烟台・威海などの海港から，大連・天津への航路がある。また，黄河，運河，小清河などは主要な内河航路をなす。農産には小麦，ラッカセイ，綿花，タバコ，柞蚕糸(さくさんし)，果実など，水産では製塩・魚介類，鉱産では石炭，金，鉄，アルミニウムなどが多い。近代工業には紡績，製糸，機械，化学，セメント，マッチ，搾油，造船など，伝統工業では織布，陶磁，磚瓦(せんが)などが盛ん。15万6700km²。9580万人（2014）。
