…British director and actor. He became passionate about theatre while studying at Oxford. He started out as an actor, but gradually moved into directing. From 1946 to 1952, he worked with directors Glen Byam Shaw and Michel Jacques Saint-Denis, a French director, at the Old Vic, producing artistic theatre. He was also head of the Young Vic, the experimental department of the Old Vic, and a teacher at the Old Vic's drama school. …
