A semi-evergreen shrub in the Ericaceae family (APG classification: Ericaceae). The leaves are alternate, oblong, 3-6 cm long, and have round glandular scales on both sides. The funnel-shaped, bell-shaped, 5-lobed crimson-purple flowers bloom in May and June. The corolla is about 3 cm in diameter and has hairs on the outside. It grows in the mountains of Hokkaido, and is distributed in Korea, northern China, and eastern Siberia.
